Author Interview
1. What inspired you to become a Multicultural, IR or BWWM Romance writer?
Great question. I found the niche after I wrote Forbidden Dance, a steamy Interracial Romance Novella. The sales spiked in a way I have not seen before. Readers’ response to Alero, Kyle and Zane’s love triangle opened my eyes and heart to IR/BWWM and it was the push I needed to carry on writing in this genre. And I have written only IR books since then.
2. Besides writing, what are some of your favorite things?
Swimming and lying on my back like a star fish in the pool fills me with so much excitement. Watching TV and going to the cinema with my family is always a great experience. Knitting mufflers is a skill I picked up a few years ago and I enjoy it a lot. Playing board games with my family is fabulous.
3. Name at least two (2) authors that you admire who write Multicultural, IR or BWWM Romance?
Chicki Brown and Simone Beaudelaire.
4. What types or genre of books do you enjoy reading? What are you currently reading?
For sure contemporary and historical romance are my two top genres to read. Right now, I’m reading Fallen Angel from Revenge to Redemption by Deborah Brandon. And I’m enjoying Shanice and Darren’s story.
5. Are you working on anything new? If so, when can we expect it to be released?
Yes, I owe my readers the sequel to my historical novel, Royal Cowries.
And I have completed the first draft of a new Interracial Romance story. God willing, both books will be released before 2016 ends.
A third book is scheduled for early 2017 because I have the stunning book cover created already.
6. Do you have any scheduled upcoming events; such as book signings, interviews, etc.?
Well, I feature my books on my blog from time to time, I engage in author takeover events on Facebook and I sometimes run book tours & giveaways.
7. Where do you expect to be in your career as an author five (5) years from now?
Only God knows. But I fully intend to carry on writing sizzling hot Flirty & Feisty Romance Novels to delight my readers. Plus, I intend to help upcoming writers with the experience I have acquired over the years.
8. What advice can you give to new authors who’s interested in writing in this genre?
Interracial Readers are loyal and keep coming back for more.
Give voice to characters who have heart and soul. Also give readers a peek into the culture, food and people of the interracial characters. And create tension, conflicts and throw in twists to add a bit of zest to your stories.
Above all, get your book proof read and edited by someone who is skilled, not necessarily at a high cost. You could swap with an author you admire and get them to edit for you.
Don’t forget to get an attractive book cover, it is the first thing that catches readers’ interest and it does not have to be expensive. My cover designer, Maria Lazarou creates attractive book covers and promo materials at super affordable prices.
Believe me, as an indie author I have experienced my fair share of challenges but if you keep writing and you are not afraid to fail to grow, you will stand the test of time.
