#DomesticViolence Awareness #BookSpotlight The Bryson Blood Wars by Cynthia Blue & Nyeshia

Good Morning! Today we are back honoring Domestic Violence Awareness Month by spreading awareness through books. If you missed any of the features, they can be found here: Visions of My Past and The Capable Series. Again, we will start off explaining what Domestic Violence is.

What is Domestic Violence?

Domestic violence is the willful intimidation, physical assault, battery, sexual assault, and/or other abusive behavior as part of a systematic pattern of power and control perpetrated by one intimate partner against another. It includes physical violence, sexual violence, psychological violence, and emotional abuse. The frequency and severity of domestic violence can vary dramatically; however, the one constant component of domestic violence is one partner’s consistent efforts to maintain power and control over the other.

Domestic violence is an epidemic affecting individuals in every community, regardless of age, economic status, sexual orientation, gender, race, religion, or nationality. It is often accompanied by emotionally abusive and controlling behavior that is only a fraction of a systematic pattern of dominance and control. Domestic violence can result in physical injury, psychological trauma, and in severe cases, even death. The devastating physical, emotional, and psychological consequences of domestic violence can cross generations and last a lifetime. (via NCADV)

Today, our spotlight will be on The Bryson Blood Wars written by Author Cynthia Blue. This series is not based on personal experience and are totally fiction. We recently interviewed Ms. Brown, the abused victim.

Interview with Ms. Opal Reese Brown

VIP Thank you for joining us Mrs. Brown.
Opal Thanks for having me.

VIP I would like to ask you a few questions about your current relationship with Wallace Melvin if that’s okay?
Opal *sigh* sure.

VIP  Is everything okay?
Opal Yes for the most part. I just wish that Wallace will stop making nasty comments about my weight and care about my feelings.

VIP How does he hurt your feelings?
Opal Besides putting me down for being overweight, he cheats on me, humiliates me by playing mean tricks on me and now he’s forcing me to do something that involves my sister Clover.

VIP Which is?
Opal Never mind, forget it. I’ve said too much already.

VIP Whatever it is it’ll be wise to tell you sister. I’m sure she’ll understand and would want to help you.
Opal I don’t know.

VIP Trust me. She will. You can get out of this abusive relationship.
Opal But he never hit me.

VIP He doesn’t have to hit you to abuse you. Just think about it okay?
Opal Alright, I will.

Wallace Melvin

Wallace Melvin is Opal Reese Brown’s current boyfriend. He verbally and emotionally abuses her. Wallace is what you would call an outside child. Wallace along with his older brother witnessed his father abusing their step mother on a regular basis.
